Brrr..Rock of Cashel it is!
Our midweek day trip took us to the County of Tipperary-specifically the Rock of Cashel also known as St. Patrick's Rock. This was about an hour and 45 minute drive from Adare. Just driving thru town up to the Rock you could see how magnificent it stood over the surrounding countryside. It was home to the Kings of Munster and much of the site is relatively still in tact from as far back as the 12th century. There are remains of a chapel, cathedral, tower and graveyard. There are also engravings of Catholic Bishops as well as some beautifully colored Irish Frescos. We could have spent a couple of hours here, unfortunately it closes early during the off season and it was COLD COLD COLD that day. Upon our departure we strolled into town and found a cute little coffee shop before getting back on the road. I recommend this as a short day trip for anyone staying in Limerick county. Definitely a site worth seeing!
