3-hour drive to the forests of Malmedy
With 16 friends we had decided to rent two bungalows in the east of Belgium in order to have a good time, have fun and escape Flanders for a few days. Our destination was Bévercé, a very little village near Malmedy. There are huge forests over here and there is an extraordinary tranquillity which makes it a very nice place to go to. Malmedy is located in the province of Liége in the east of Belgium and is very close to the German border. The languages spoken there are French and German in general. We went there by car and in fact it was a journey from the one side of Belgium to the other. The drive took me approximately 3 hours. So I will not have to tell you how small Belgium is ;).
The region iof Malmedy is located in an area known as ' Les cantons de l'Est' or de Oostkantons or die Ostkantone. Before the first world war this part of Belgium used to be in German hands. That's also one of the reasons why German is spoken here. I decided not to spend any time in the village but to walk in the forest to enjoy the perfect tranquillity. Flanders, the north of Belgium that is where me and all my friends live in doesn't have that many forests you know ;).
