Cambodia - Siem Reap - Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, and the floating village at Tonle Sap

Just Spectacular

I almost don't even know what to say...this was one incredible trip. Getting on the plane I had no idea whatsoever as to what I should expect out of Cambodia. The passengers we were flying out there quickly jumped on the opportunity to educate me about Siem Reap, the Khmer, and the ruins Angkor. Once we started talking I then realized what a treat I was in for. Arriving at Angkor was incredible, the ruins were massive and so well preserved - it was awe-inspiring. We passed almost six hours there without hesitation (even though it was 116 degrees).

Our next stop was Angkor Thom - the faces carved into this structure are amazing. We came upon the structure through the trees on elephants and we were all stunned. It is so difficult to explain the "accidental tourist" vibe this trip had, but it was exactly that as none of us had background on Cambodia previously. I can't help but think it was that much better having never researched it beforehand.

The next ruins we visited were the ones that "Tomb Raider" was filmed at, I think they are called Ta Keo. Again, really beautiful and amazing.

Wow, this resort gets a 5-star review across the board. I couldn't believe that this stay was ONLY $62.00 US. Nice, comfortable, clean rooms with every modern amenity. I didn't think the wireless service would be very good but it was.

The pool and the grounds of the hotel were immaculate, although it was way too hot to sit at the pool for any length of time. The restaurant was very good, especially the satay, and the beer of course!

For all you spa-goers, get this: I only paid $75.00 US for a full day - wrap, scrub, massage, manicure, pedicure, and facial!!! And, it was really good.

As well, the hotel concierge was able to arrange transportation for tours, shopping, dinner, clubbing...whatever you want.

I am not kidding, this was an awesome hotel...screw the hostel, splurg and stay here.. The days are long at the ruins and you will love coming back to comfort. I made the pilots get massages - for 15 USD - they were so thrilled; they fought me tooth and nail but after they were ecstatic!

Wow! If a 5-star is only USD62, how little is the cost of a hostel?!
