All Good Things Come to an End
October 5, 2006
This was the last day of a 3 1/2 week trip that included Cairo, Luxor, Agra, the Amalfi Coast, and Rome. We squeezed in one extra unplanned day in Rome at the end of the trip because we hadn't yet had time to see the Colosseum and it was my birthday. We were having a difficult time finding a hotel when we stumbled across the Gladiatori Hotel. Although it was crazy expensive we booked it since we had already changed our airline tickets. Man, was this a great location. We were able to spend all day visiting the Colosseum and the surrounding sites and then made it back to the hotel rooftop in time for sunset. What a great view from this hotel!!
I can't think of a better way to spend a birthday!

WOW...what a view!!
Rome was the last stop on a huge trip. We were initially supposed to fly home on my birthday but decided to stay an extra day; the only problem was that we could not find a hotel for the additional night. Since everything available last minute was ridiculously expensive so we settled on the Gladiatori, because of the magnificent view!!
This hotel is incredible. The hotel directly faces the Colosseum and has a gorgeous roof-top garden for drinks and food. The staff are accomodating and pleasant.
If eating in the hotel, keep in mind that they only serve light food in the evening - tapas style - but this was excellent.
I'm not sure if they don't allow those not staying at the hotel to go to the roof-top garden/bar or if it is just a hidden gem, but the views at sunset of the Colosseum from that perspective are incredible.
Even though it was a flawless stay I still think it was expensive...guess that is relative. For a special occasion this would be ideal.
