Trip to Cairo

OMG!!!!

Well, what can I say? This is one of those "I can't believe that I'm doing this" moments. I hope I continue to have those and never grow tired of them. Arriving in Cairo is a unique experience, especially to those who have never been. You will be mobbed by people trying to "help" you, get you a ride, carry your bags, bakeesh, bakeesh (meaning tip, tip)!!!! The people are aggressive but they can smell a tourist from miles away...so know that they are just trying to make their money.

We made our way to the Oberoi Mena House (so happy we decided to stay there) and settled in. It was early evening when we arrived so we just decided to unwind in the hotel and saved the pyramids for another day.

To visit the pyramids we initially decided to rent camels.

..this did not go over very well and we decided to return them for little carriages with drivers. This was much better. Coming across the pyramids for the first time was an incredible sight!!! We spent the day ogling the pyramids and the sphinx. In the afternoon we made a trip to see the step pyramid of Saqqara and then decided to make our way to the market, where my shrewd haggling skills were soon made apparent. After purchasing some sheesha pipes and some local crafts, we headed back to the hotel.

We had dinner at the hotel restaurant and I must say it has to be the best Indian restaurant I've ever eaten at.

Don't miss this trip if you have a chance! You will regret it!
