Of all the times I have passed through JFK on my way somewhere I have never been into New York City.
Some friends were also visiting and I decided to tag along and follow along to Boston and Cape Cod.
Flying into LaGuardia I got to see the skyline of the city and the Statue of Liberty. My friends picked me up in the airport and we headed into the city. Our first stop was Radio City Hall and Rockefeller Center. Heading up to to The Top of the Rock on a nice sunny day gave us some great views of the city and surrounding areas. Central Park, Manhattan, New Jersey, Empire State Building, Chrysler Building and even the Statue of Liberty were visible. I wish I had time to go up at sunset and watch the city lights come to life.
After taking the views we head back down to ground level for lunch. What is more of a New York lunch than a hot dog from a street vendor! Plus it is cheap.
We walked the few blocks over to Times Square. Wow...where do you look? There are billboards everywhere! We even got a quick glimpse of the Naked Cowboy...it's hard NOT to notice someone walking around the city in a pair of white and tighties and a cowboy hat carrying a guitar!!!
When you have a limited amount of time we felt it was worth spending the money for the hop on/hop off tour buses that travel to all the popular sites. We took the bus around the city, through the financial district, past the United Nations and the Empire State building and along the water past the Brooklyn Bridge and the Waterfall exhibits.
Our last stop was Central Park where we found the famous Carnegie Deli to have dinner. My pastrami sandwich was good but way too big too finish! I think it was enough to feed a whole family.
