Last week I finally had my first taste of karaoke in Jakarta with TB bud, Augustine and my bosom friend Hellen from CS. After a warung dinner of Satay Ayam and Kambing (yes Filo friend's it is what you think it is and I finally got to eat it here and they say it's lamb, not!)
The price per hour is pretty much the same. Hellen who was adamant not to join turned out to be a bit of a songster herself and of course Augustine didn't seem to have inhibitions in singing his lungs out. I think all 3 of us had depth in singing, from bitterness or whatever. What was classic was Hellen and I singing our hearts out on boyband songs from Backstreet Boys, first time ever in my life and it was very liberating;-)
I've also been able to finally see the National Monument, go up the top and see the unimpressive city skyline and try out red wine at the posh resto that's aroused my curiousity for the longest time, Cork n Screw, with Hellen, Greek CS Stavros, his Chinese-Canadian girlfriend Lyn, and their Indo/Filipina host Mary. This is the week God brought my first Filipino friend into my life. Jed who is a colleague and is doing freelance photography, who's character has changed drastically living away from home for the first time. His encouraging words are God sent. And he has also helped me practice my Filipino after over a month.
I cannot begin to fathom what else God has in store for me.
