In August 2005 we took the famous transsiberia (mongolia) express all the way to China starting off in Russia. After flying from Amsterdam Schiphol we started of in St Petersburg russia and stayed there for 2 days. From this city we took the nighttrain down to Moscow were we stayed 3 days. It's a great city to stay in. From Moscow the Transsiberia railroad starts. The first 4 days we stayed in the train, but it stops around 40 times (2 min till 20 min) So you can get outside and buy stuff or just sightsee, most of the times not further than the trainsstation. After 4 days we arrived in Irkutsk Siberia. We went down to lake baikal and stayed a night in a russian homestay. Great experience, we stayed at a older womens house, she was very nice. After Baikal we stayed another night in a hotel in Irkustk.

Another wedding!!
Irkutsk is a real russian city, old buildings and a lot of history. After Irkutsk we took the transsmongolia express down to Ulan Bator Mongolia. A complete different world from russia, everything is different, buildings, people, atmosphere everything, but very nice. A 2 hour drive form Ulan Bator we stayed a night in a 'Ger'camp, traditional mongolian housing, this was really fun and a great experience, we also visitid a real nomad Mongolia family. After our visit in the Ger, we went back to Uland Bator and stayed for a night. The day after our train left for China, we arrived 1 1/2 day later in Beijing. Was a difference form al the small trainstations we visited. Beijing is enormes. We stayed in a nice hotel there and went to see the Great Wall, Vorbidden city and the emperor summer palace. After 2 days we took the night train down to Shanghai, it is a 12 hour traintrip, were you sleep with 6 people in a cabin. Shanghai is a big metropol and a busy city. We only stayed there for 1 day, wich was a little bit to short. Tip: Take the monorail onder the river to the othersite!! The last day of our trip we took the MAGLEV train to the airport, it's the fastest and only magnetic driven train in the world, it runs 438 km/h, it takes you in 6 minutes to Shanghai airport. This was a trip we never forget.
