Brownsberg, a wonderful mountain terrain with waterfalls
January 21, 2009
It was a fine saturday and we decided, what's the heck, let's hit the roads and go to Brownsberg - a peaceful place out away from the daily life. So we packed and packed and packed and up up up and away. My 'mommy' drove with me while the other 2 'old man' drove in another. We raced along the red bauxite laden road, criss-crossing the water filled patches and dirts. I drove first and then 'mommy' took over had a thrill driving up edges of the terrain but still crazy enough to race. We reached the 'tent' saw other people already occupied some space and decided to 'invade' and so we did. hang our own hammocks, took all things out, enough food to last for days. We brought our own stove and WHAT! our own 'kitchen'. God, my family, they are nuts, not saying all Dutch are nuts but surely very lovable, starightforward and they are my cherished family.
So we set out our table and had chores to be done while 'mommy' and I, we chilled and strolled around as her partner and our 'old man' got the duty to cook etc. We cooked, ate, chilled, had lots of lots of laughs, played cards and chilled. We decided to ignore and then befriend our 'tent mates' - mostly other Dutch, 2 guys and a girl. We had to because we made lots of noise - not saying we are barbarians, but we are no longer in the city, aren't we? ha ha ha. Fine morning, we heard loud noise, scary noise, sending chills into our already cold backbone - guess who's calling? The Howling Monkeys. Then, amazingly, our 'opa' got up from the hammocks and stood up to smoke and Oooooooppppsss immediately the howling stopped. GOD, we realized we have the biggest and scariest howling or ugly looking zthing with us.
...and we laughed and laughed and laughed at him, with him, for making the howling stopped. Superb times spent together. I miss these people and all the creatures in the jungle too. Then, we went hiking, walking whistling having fun till we walk down to the Waterfall, what was it called again? Irene Vallen. Rough and tough, we walked down little that I realized how UNFIT I was and walking back up awaits me, looming like a monster. We hit the waterfall, had lots of pictures taken, pushing each other in the water and bla bla bla. Then, it was the toughest time in my UNFIT life walking up the kilometers and swore to never do it again but decided to quit smoking myself and I successfully did afterwards, for nearly 5 months, well life takes you. Wow, all these memories makes me cry dry in cold wet Germany.
Just to continue and capture those moments. The Irene Waterfall was refreshing. We walked up the trail and it was very very difficult as the steps up are very irregular, tricky, muddy, sandy and full of tree branches. We hiked up while talking and analyzing our surroundings. 'Mommy' was very fit and she could hike up easy. The others, we gave excuses to see some plants etc...just to take rest...ha ha ha. We finally came up to the road trail and took a very cool walk towards our hut. Sat down on a tree branch and had very intelligent discussion about something that I do not remember now but we had great time discussing. We took rest watching the scenery of the Brokopondo lake. We then set out to start cooking for our dinner. While our family chef took to his kitchen, we three played cards, drank red wine and nice dessert made by Heerco. We laughed a lot. It was good times. We then had dinner.
