Packing Up
December 28, 2006
So we packed up about 10am, taking in the morning air. A bit chilly but gorgeous weather once again. We gave our food to the English girls and a European couple whose food had been stolen by a possum. Something we found really funny actually. The first time we came here we had a cheeky possum trying to steal ours aswell, unfortunely these tourists didn't realise we had cheeky critters around here and left their food at the top of their packs - OUTSIDE their tent completely and the possum snuck into it and took away with a days worth of food. So they were pretty happy about it, it meant they could stay another day or two.
It was low tide which meant we could take the easy way across the bay since there was no water in it. We spotted a gorgeous Tui as well. They're so pretty. We headed towards Anchorage, which is full of backpackers and tourists on day trips. It's a lovely beach though and all the water taxis stop here, and we planned to flag one to take us back to base. We weren't there for very long before we jumped on "Aqua Taxis" boat and were heading towards the base. It was a really nice ride actually, and we just had to pay back at their post so no need to carry cash, or to book (but check where they stop first, but there are heaps of water taxis and they go all day).

A must if you're going this way, and even if you aren't you really should. Why travel to Fiji or Hawaii I say! This isn't that busy and is easily walked by the whole family. There are day trips and kayaking trips available everyday and is a very worthwhile experience.

The entire track can easily be walked in a few days. If you have a family, or not enough time - take a water taxi to Anchorage and casually walk back, or catch up with a water taxi at another bay (check which bays they stop at). Water taxis to Anchorage are $25 one-way per person, could be less for a family or group booking but check with the company.
Walking shoes are all you need on this track, it's a very easy walk with nothing that strenuous at all. A day pack with water, food, insect repellent and a warm top is probably all you need. It gets a bit cooler in the evening if you are still walking back.

Great, friendly bunch of people - a good laugh! $25 one-way from Anchorage back to base.
