Shop-a-thon, and picking up Ragnar at Gare du Nord

Shakespeare & Co
Today was AWESOME. We left a little late due to bad weather from Marne-La-Valle and got off near the Notre Dame in order for Irene to see the Shakespeare & Co bookstore where she said Ethan Hawke had been in a movie. Whatever makes people happy makes me happy ;)

Not a minute was wasted - Tracy bought postcards to send along to friends and family, I saw a box of condoms that reminded me of Danny, and we took lots of pictures at the Notre Dame before heading off to find some sugar coated chestnuts that Tracy read about in one of her guide books. These would prove to not really exist, but we did stop at Berthillion, the restaurant associated with the famous glacerie for some cappucino and onion quiche. It was DELICIOUS and a nice respite from the cold outside.
This one's for you Danny!! We missed you!!

We eventually made our way to the Le Marais area which was AWESOME. All sorts of little specialty shops and the feeling reminds me a lot of Chelsea - upper class but still hip and cool. We stopped into an olive oil store that had amazing products. We spent over an hour here learning about olive oil, tampenade, bath products, and how to feed our soon-to-be-addictions in LA. =) Tracy was able to get her special salt while I bought a jar of risotto mix that I wanted to make at home and share with my parents. Sure risotto is Italian but I wanted to share a little bit of Europe with them for being such awesome parents during this whole "I'm going to Africa, maybe for a while" dialogue. We saw a lot of chocolate stores, and I saw a dress in a shop window that riveted me in place.
Picking Ragnar up!

I ended up trying some clothes on and Tracy went across the street to a perfumerie. Though the dress didn't work out, I bought a gorgeous black sweater, light as air. We were about to head to the Picaso Museum when Ragnar called - he was about 30 minutes away from Gare du Nord. Ack, we should head out to meet him! So off we went to pick him up - YAY!!!

We arrived at Gare du Nord and found a safe pillar to shield us from the mad dash of people. Within 15 minutes, I saw Ragnar on the other side of the turnstiles and jumped like 10 feet into the air yelling his name! He's so distinguishable towering 4 inches above everyone else with his close-cropped blonde hair. YAY! We had a group hug and went upstairs to find something to eat around Gare du Nord. It started raining by now and we ducked into a French Bistro/bar and after waiting about 30 minutes for service, had a gorgeous meal of mussels, onion soup and chicken.
Nhi would have been proud of us for having seafood, and we would repeat a similar meal throughout the trip =) Ragnar showed us how to eat mussels elegantly using the shell as clamps for pulling out the insides. We all had to try mussels a la Ragnar after this - hehe!!

We headed home for some rest after Ragnar's travels and just generally being tired from our very full days. Tonight we were supposed to go back to the Montmarte area to Divan du Mond to go to Bollywood night, as we had missed Taiwan night on Sunday. Unfortunately, living in the outskirts of Paris prevented us from having any really late nights because of the long commute back home and the lack of transport after midnight. The RER stops runing from Paris to Marne-La-Valle at 12:40am. So we rested, chatted and went to bed, ready for our next day!
