After the cooking course, lunch and visit of The Master of the Nets Garden, leaving Suzhou,we were driven to our hotel,Shide(tang) hotel in a "small" village according to our guide called Tongli, located 18 km from Suzhou and 80 from Shangai airport.
Like Zhouzhuang(see the blog Trying to escape Beijing of the buddy SEATTLEJON),Tongli is one of the most famous water-town in China.Situated in Jiangsu Province,in the south of the Yangtze River Delta and on the shore of Taihu lake,it is a best preserved old town with a history of over 1000 years.
The town is built around five lakes and divided in seven islets by fifteen rivers which are connected by forty nine stone-bridges like the Luck Bridge(jili),Peace and Tranquillity Bridge(taiping).Nearly all the buildings of the old town face the water.
There are there traditional residences with beautiful courtyards, gardens, houses and temples.
Due to the magnificent water-based landscape and the ancient architecture, more than 100 TV and films have been produced there.
Tongli houses in an ancient girls school also a SEX MUSEUM,the Museum of Ancient Chinese Sex Culture( formerly in Shangai )where 3000 items are displayed.
SORRY I HAVE NO PIC OF THIS CULTURAL PLACE!!!!
