Þingvellir in Bláskógarbyggð. Where the original Parliament site is. Also where the Eurasian & North american Plates are Drifting Apart.
After we dried off from the blue lagoon, we headed back outside and got back on the bus to head to Þingvellir (pronounced Thingvellir) in Bláskógarbyggð. This is where the original Parliament site is (it wasn't a building it was a pole). This is also where the Eurasian & North american tectonic plates are drifting apart. You can go scuba diving here and actually see the rift in the plates. After staying here for a bit we head to the Gulfoss waterfall. This is one intense waterfall ! It was immense and sooo beautiful ! I wish I had better pictures of it. It was just sooo cold outside and the closer we got to the waterfall the worse it was, it was sooo windy and the freezing water was spraying us, not pleasant so we headed up these wooden steps to a little restaurant area to wait for the bus to take us to geysir.
Smoke after a Geyser
There isn't much time to site see when you only have 4 hours of full day light ! We got on th ebus and headed to geysir to see the, you guessed it geysirs ! There were 2 geysirs here, one that went off every 8 minutes and one that went off every half hour or so. I got some great videos of the geysir. It was sooo cool ! I had never seen one before. You could tell right before it was going to happen because all of the water would sink back into the hole and then all of a sudden the geysir would blow. We stayed here until the sun started setting and then headed back to the hostel. Simone was leaving the next morning so we stayed up and watched movies all night in the hostel with some people we had met earlier. We watched Harold and Kumar go to White Castle, an Icelandic movie called 101 Reykjavik and Burn after Reading. I really liked 101 Reykjavik it was really good !
