Cape Dyrhólaey

We drove up curving roads to this cliff. So Breathtaking !!!!!!!

This was my favorite part of iceland ! It was soooo beautiful. I felt like I was in a national Geographic magazine. We booked a Super Jeep Tour ( sooooo worth the extra money). He drove us to the South Coast, through Rivers, up vertical black sand dunes, on Cliffs, it was sooo cool. Real Off-Roading.  We walked behind the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, and got soaked !! If you do this wear waterproof clothing and shoes, and protect your camera ! I got too much water in mine and for a while all of my pictures were blurry and there were halos around anything bright. It finally dried off :o) The best part of this first location was that we were in the middle of nowhere at a waterfall, and there happened to be one other car of guys at the waterfall taking pictures, and we ran into the same group of guys at a bar the next night ! Small world ! (well I guess small country ! lol but what are the odds they were at the same bar !) After the first waterfall we drove to a black sand beach.   This was magnificant ! Our driver drove us up an almost vertical black sand wall ! He was getting a kick out of freaking out 5 screaming girls. There was a woman from London in the car who kept asking him,  "Are you sure you know what you are doing ??" He just chuckled and said, "I could do this in my sleep." We took a bunch of pictures on the beach (that don't really do any justice to the beauty of it). Then we headed to Dyrholaey (I only found out the name of this area after I saw the same cliff in a book back at the hostel :o), our driver was very nice, but not very talkative). Here there were amazing cliffs over the ocean and a cool light house. Next we headed to the Glacier to see the beautiful blue ice, and natural formations and little glacier rivlets.  Thank goodness it had snowed the night before, because we were able to walk on it, without the snow it is impossible to walk withough special equipment. Even with the snow sometimes my foot would touch the ice and I would slip and fall right down ( still have the black and blues on my knees). From here we headed to the Skogarfoss waterfall and Christina and I walked up the steps all the way to the top. No one else did it, maybe because there were sooooo many steps !  After here we headed over to Thorsmork. Our driver took a short cut through Rivers and over rocks, It was really rough terrain, I thought I was going to get whiplash from all the bumps ! The scenery I saw this day was just breathtaking, words can't describe, so I hope the pictures do it some justice. We saw alot this day, so once we got back to the hostel, we just watched a movie.
