Emmen

I have been twice in Emmen. This was one of the ‘biggest’ places near Ees. So when I had a day off and stayed over there I went to Emmen to do some shopping.

First of all, Emmen is situated in the province Drenthe. The main train station has only one platform. Twice a hour there is a train in the direction of Zwolle. This takes about 1 hour.

In the province Drenthe and Groningen you can find the ‘Hondsrug’. This is a Dutch ridge of sand. For tourist people who likes to go walking, this is a very good area to do. But I’m not for that reason in Emmen.

I will write here some Sights:

·         Dierenpark Emmen; which means the Zoo. Every year it’s very busy over here and a few years ago they build another building to make it bigger.

·         Veenpark Emmen; this is an open air museum. It is about the history of 19^th and the 20^th century.

·         Some churches

·         A Synagogue.

·         Windmill: Zeldenrust. This one is situated in Zuidbarge (Emmen). The windmill had been build in 1857 near the Oranjekanaal.

·         Dolmen (hunebedden) I will write more about this in my next entry.

I’ve been there once for clubbing. There are only 2 pubs where you can dance. First of all we thought, it will be very boring over here! But when we came there it was very nice. Inside it was much bigger than I thought and they had some good music.

It was very quiet around 12 o’clock. All the people arrived later and it became better. Everyone says that Groningen is a nice place to go out, but I don’t think so ! Emmen is really fun to go out, if you are with some great people who loves to act crazy ;)
