Lucky me, I got the opportunity of spending my winter holiday in Wanaka and Cadrona.
The atmosphere in Wanaka, which is so small that it reminded me of my home village, was absolutely awesome. The deep and freezing Lake Wanaka was one of my my favourite spots. The water was crystal clear so that you could easily spot many long eels swimming around. Besides it was a fantastic view and a walk along the riverside walk was so relaxing.
On sunny days we went up to Cadrona, where the ski fields were wide and not crowded and the view has been stunning once more. When I told my family and friends at home about those great snow conditions they even got a bit envious (but was I surprised?).
On rainy days we either visited Puzzling World, a very entertaining place not far away, or we spent a happy time in our nice cottage with board games and good food.
Before leaving the South Island we spent our last hours in Queenstown. Even though rain was comimg down all morning I enjoyed the time in Queenstown’s centre, where you can find a lot of gift and craft shops.
Queenstown’s location is nice as well and the surrounding mountains make the arrival and departure by plane special, too.
