Part One
Date: Sunday July 8th 2007
Erin, her mother Dianne and I spent the night in Cornwall (at Ecolodge). We arrived at about 8pm and Erin and I went out for a bite to eat before an early night.
Date: Monday July 9th 2007
It hasn’t stopped raining since we left on our trip. We headed towards Monckton but were only able to make it 45 minutes from Fredericton. We left Ecolodge at about 9am, got to Howard-Johnson at about 8:00pm. Quebec had only French signs at Subway I was so happy they spoke English too! Of course, I did recognize a lot of the French wording and some of the words in people’s conversations. We saw Montreal as we drove over the high bridge, in which Dianne was freaking the whole time (she’s afraid of heights and was the driver!!!), still it was fun being over all the houses and so high up! I saw the St. Lawrence and I never knew New Brunswick’s hills were so huge, I mean giant! I’m sure if they were made of rock they’d be mountains. Tomorrow we will rise at 7:30am to go to the Hopewell Rocks.

We ate breakfast and headed to Moncton, from there we found our way down to Riverview where the Hopewell Rocks are. We had 3 hours to kill before the tide receded so we went shopping. I bought Ev a Dora the Explorer book in French, postcards to send to mom, Grandma J and dad as well as a shot glad for myself once we got to Nova Scotia When we went to see the Hopewell Rocks, it was awesome. The water comes up to 40 feet. When the tides receded we were able to walk on the sea floor; so I took lots of rocks and pictures. They were so beautiful, the rocks, muddy but beautiful. The car ride is always long but we made it to Erin’s aunt Marion’s where I met Tessa (Erin’s cousin) and Sandi (Tessa’s dad). We watched Taxi, good movie. Erin’s mom grew up here, and tomorrow I meet Erin’s grandparents. Man, Erin’s mom’s family is so much fun! The jokes, everything. Anyways, it’s almost 2am so I’ll let the Hopewell Rocks speak for themselves.
Date: Wednesday July 11th 2007
We’re going to Erin’s grandparents today, and P.E.I Thursday or Friday. From here on out the grandparent’s place is our home base. I hope I get pictures of the fire hydrants here, they are painted to look like dogs, wolverine from X-Men and many more! We saw the youngest aunt of the family and me feeling girly went shopping and bought some new flip-flops, clips to put my hair up and sunglasses. Then we (Alex Dianne, Erin and I) went to the beach and swam in the ocean. The water was salt and had randomly placed jellyfish. We had a water gun fight while collecting rocks and seashells to make necklaces. I’m a little intimidated by Erin’s grandfather and their very traditional ways of thinking. Watched DareDevil, ate some homemade blueberry pie and went to bed.

Erin’s grandfather woke us up by slamming his fist against the door. What a loud noise it makes. We left before 9m, met up with Erin’s aunt Marian, Denise and cousin Tessa. From there we drove to Halifax, Nova Scotia. We got a hotel (which was pretty sweet) that Erin, her mom, Alex and I shared.
“ Norway
In memory of the members of the Norwegian Merchant Navy, Royal Norwegian Navy and Royal Norwegian Army who were lost at sea and were buried in Niva Scotia during the second world war. We will remember them”
^----That’s what one of the plaques said at the Tall Ships event.
From there we went to see the Tall Ships. I took plenty of pictures and even met Erin’s uncle George (Her mom has a huge family, about 10 kids in all) before shopping around a bit. My favourite ship was the unicorn, crewed by all women. A write up about them is in the newspaper I bought here. I bought grandma J an old black and white photo blown up of two ships (possibly the bluenose?). It’s so beautiful, all the old photos they had in that store. I was able to find the perfect gift for my father, which was a model of a fishing boat (he is building one of his own) and I bought myself a GN and a (quix) toy that I can change it’s shapes. I think I know what I’m going to get my mother, but I haven’t found anything perfect yet. The store I went into also had wooden fish that were carved so that they could move, much like those snake toys they sell back home. When in one’s hands they felt so real! But they were too expensive to really buy.
There was only one disaster today. Alex, Erin and I went to get our ordered food from Boston Pizza but Marion scared Dianne with her idea of gangs so she freaked and Erin not knowing her way around added to the problem. In the end.. I was only a block away from where we needed to be, not lost.. but they tracked us down and came with us. Embarrassing considering we are adults (pretty much) but I guess poor communication skills will lead to such things. We downed our anger with food and an excellent movie “The 300” once we got back to the hotel.
