We're in the delightful small town of Weer, Austria, just east of Innsbruck! We've run up the street from the farm campground to the only cafe/hotel in town and they were very kind to give us the internet code. While we sit here in the lobby, everyone who walks by smiles and greets us. Somehow, they can tell we speak English-not sure what cues we're giving off. But it is delightful that people notice and greet others- we love small towns!
Our campground has an awesome view of the incredible alps! We drove here when our only Innsbruck Campground was closed. We've signed up for 4 rolls in the morning (get after 7:30 am, 2 white, 2 dark ones) and the 10am horse carriage ride. We met all the horses (9) and got a personal tour of the barn and faciltiies by a nice German grandfather, I think a campground family member. It was very sweet, in spite of the fact that German is our least-known language and we are pitiful. But we are determined to learn more.
Oh, we went to Neuschewanstein today! You know the castle that Disney's castle is modelled after? It was in a spectacular setting and the walks up and down were good exercise. Fascinating build by Ludwig II!
We bought our vinette (sticker) to drive the Austrian motorways for 10 days (7.70E) at a gas station after stopping at a truck check to ask the police if we needed a "Go" tag for our campervan. One of them kindly accompanied us to Sugar and read the side tag for us, which indicated that she is right at the 3.5 KG weight to qualify for the less expensive (no milage calculated) vinette. Whoo-hoo!
Everyone is very nice and we are so impressed with the way most people speak 3-5 languages, switching between then with ease and grace and gentle spirits.
I must run book our ferry to England now- we are 2 weeks out from needing it! We have just one month from today before we head home! Our path will be blazed quickly now.
The Behans are flying to Texas from Ireland in less than a week to start their adventure and I'm so very excited for them as they explore the Wild West! Ned is going to pick them up from the airport on Sunday!
