6.2.09 Into Switzerland!

6.2.09    Into Switzerland

“Oh man, another toll booth!” I complained.

“Wait!” said Jazy, “It’s Switzerland!”

Sure enough- we’d arrived at the Swiss border and bought our 30E vinette (windshield sticker required for driving the Swiss roads) before we knew it.  We’d meant to go to the Italian Lakes area near the border, then shop for groceries before entering expensive Switzerland.

Ah, well!  It all worked out.

Gorgeous Switzerland- we're thinking of you, Kristina!
We made it to a lovely resort campground along a gorgeous lake, surrounded by wooded, softly-rolling mountains.  It is a 5* place and only 31.34E a night (45.75 Swiss Francs).

Did you know that Switzerland is part of the European Union (EU), but they use their own Swiss Francs, not the Euro?  I think they’re the only country that does that.  It is 1 E to 1.52 SF and essentially $1 US to 1 SF.

A mall-like grocery store complex is closeby and we walked there for groceries.  It was not more expensive than Italy, although figuring the costs of meat at 42 SF per kilo is daunting!  We just don’t eat much meat in Europe because it is frighteningly expensive.

We did enjoy getting Swiss cheese, Swiss chocolate, Heidi milk and yogurt, cheese fondue, and other essentials.  Then we hauled our stash back to the campground and the kids went to play on the zipline and in the swimming pool.

Swiss border!

We got the spot right on the corner of the lake!  I paid 5 SF extra, but skipped electric for the same price, so we’ve got a million dollar view of the sun, lake and mountains.  Gorgeous!

This campground, La Piodella, is a “Camping TCS” campground and is extremely nice with a restaurant, bar, boat dock, etc.  There was a very cool miniature backhoe digging holes here and we thought that neighbor Justus or my Dad need one of those!  I’ll try to upload a picture.

Must go- paid for 2 hours of internet, so time’s a ticking!

Jazy just made me laugh- she said that in honor of "Big Brother" the posture guru, she was going to walk through restaurants pointing to people and saying, "Chew with your mouth closed!"  Ha!

This is a really nice entry to Switzerland!
