6.14.09 Vivacious Vienna

Vienna was so amazing and lovely that we decided to stay another night.  There are SO many enormous, historical buildings with lovely squares, fountains, parks and cathedrals to explore.  Plus, don’t forget that Vienna is the queen of coffeehouses, so we had lunch at one right on Michaelerplatz- thanks Ned!  J  It was delightful and the kids each had a delicious café au laite that came layered with mostly hot milk, then coffee, then frothy milk on top.  We did indeed have sausages in Vienna!

We had to laugh because the bread basket was put on the table and I helped divide them up onto a plate so each person could try a variety.

Camping Wien (Wien is the Austrian spelling of "Vienna")
While we ate most of it, we were surprised to find a charge for each roll- the waitress kept accurate count of how many rolls we ate!  Do they serve the ones that we didn’t eat to later customers?  While I’d read that if you decline the bread basket, you do not endear yourself to your waitress, I had forgotten about the per piece charge.

It is hot here, made hotter by the lack of air moving through any bus or metro train.  The sun is brilliant and we are relaxing now in Sugar with a nice breeze blowing through her.  A French group just arrived- there are 4 so far and I wonder if it is a caravan group.  Everyone seems very friendly.  While we love Austria, Jazy is wondering why they ever left wonderful France.

No terrible mishaps on public transportation to report today!  We figured out that the blue line was the train, not the metro, BEFORE getting on it.  We managed to find the bus stop all on our own.  Miracles never cease!

I was just admiring the table that a guy a few campsites up was preparing with wine, wine glasses and little plates.  They guys around here sure seem to be attentive to that sort of service to their gals.  The European men are always the ones to take all the dishes to wash at the campground dish sinks after meals.  It is nice to see!
