Quit Staring at the Freak Show!

So we got out of the trail and grabbed a rickety pick up to Chunchi. We arrived to the only hotel muddy and dirty, which pretty much has been the status quo for the past week. At Chunchi since the moment we arrived people behaved rather strangely starting with the hotel owner. We are used to being stared at, as we recognize that we must be like a freak show to most people (different body shape, haircuts, a wild beard, and monstrous backpacks). However, usually adults can control their staring better than children and cows, which was not the case at Chunchi, where everybody looked at us for prolongued periods of time. The next day when we went to the bus stop at the Panamerican highway, we would say hi to people but only get stared as if we part animal, part humans. When people were able to hold back, they were nice, but it was pretty uncomfortable. Regardless, it was so nice to have a bed and hot water to shower in. They also fed us dinner when we got in late at the hotel which was great.
Anyway, eventually a bus came to sweep us out of this strange town and we started our 7 hour journey to Loja where our even longer journey to the Iquitos, Peru would start. It was surprisingly uneventful and we were rather shocked, until we were getting off the bus and breathed the putrid smell of a dirty diaper left under the first row. Luckily that classy move kept our streak of zany bus incidents alive.
