la vida maravillosa en Barcelona
After a 2-hour bus ride from the airport of Girona we reached Barcelona's city centre and there we took a city train to camping El Masnou which was about 8 km further on. This little camping is located next to the sea and is full of young people, excellent. From the beach nearby you could catch a glimpse from Barcelona already. So we decided to get back to the centre and our first stop was Plaza Catalunya. One of the biggest and busies squars in the middle of the city. The fountain, good weather and little fields of grass make it a nice place to relax. There's a busy subway station beneath the square. Here we discovered Barca is a busy cosy warm town full of surprises. you can start a walk on Las Ramblas, a huge boulevard with large trees on both sides.
There are plenty of little and large shops, street animators, mime, and eating opportunities and this is also a part of Barcelona most visited by tourists. This makes Las Ramblas a beloved place for pickpockets and robbers but don't worry if you act like you always do and keep an eye open you won't have any problems like in any other European city. Next to that the police is well represented in their known costumes or undercover. We realised there are plenty undercover cops as we saw some guys running as hell in a pursuit. If you follow Las Ramblas you will soon see Barcelona's harbour which is huge. Oh and don't forget to look up to the buildings of Las Ramblas. Some of them are nicely decorated and here and there you can discover some stuff by the artist Gaudi. If you into the little narrow streets on the left side of Las Ramblas you'll enter the Barri Gotic. This is an old part of Barcelona with cosy little squares covered by palm trees and traffic-free little roads. We went back to the camping spot on foot, and quite late into the night. In order to be able to follow the shore we had to climb over rocks and walked over construction sites but it was a nice little adventure and the little lights of Barcelona could be seen in the distance.
