My first steps in the Old Continent! .... And here comes the rain!
December 25, 2008
It was an 8 hours flight from NYC to BCN. For some reason I was still very nervous and anxious ... I spent Xmas on the plane, it was a bit strange, but I didn't have time to think or feel sad for not being with my love ones.
When I arrived in Bcn, I think I was still worried about customs, I read a lot in the internet about how hard it was to pass through the European customs, so anyways the guy just asked me a couple of questions and let me in! .... I was officially in Europe! :D
I was waiting for my bags and I just couldn't express my happiness! hahahaha.... but inside myself there was a voice saying "Control yourself, control yourself" lol ....
It took a lot to get to this point.....was a harsh way, and I finally made it! :)
I got my bags and my cousin was waiting for me outside the airport, I was going to stay and leave my things in his place, as it was going to become my home base, and then just get a small back pack to travel around.
It was about noon, I just left my things in the place and then we were hitting the streets.... I was very tired, but the excitement kept me on and with energies I didn't know where they came from! hahaha....
Walking down Barcelona just felt great, perfect! I was impressed by the old buildings, the small streets, ppl walking everywhere, art, cafes..... It just felt RIGHT.
One of the first places we visited was the station, althought it wasn't open as it was Xmas, we could get in and take some pics around. Again the combination of technology and old strucutre appears in Franca Station.
We visited most of the historic places of barcelona "El Casco Historico" which was just amazing, I felt transported in time. There was this small plaza that really got my attention, because you could see on the wall the prints of the bullets; the killings of the war.
We kept walking and there were always a coffee or bar, or the smell of the chocolate with churros around.... We stopped at this place to have some tapas with Sidra.... it was just amazing!!! A really Welcome to Spain!!! :) .... at that point I knew that the Spanish food was not going to disappoint me! :) or Barcelona itself! :)
The day was so beautiful, blue sky and shiny sun, but still chilling, just perfect as the way I like :) .... After the delicious tapas, we kept on walking through La Rambla and all the way to the Marina or the Olympic Port. There were a lot of ppl around, just doing nothing! haha, well it's Christmas so all the stores are close and ppl were just enjoying the day :D
