Sunny day in Tossa de Mar
January 4, 2009
Today, we woke up early in the morning to travel by car to Girona, where my plane would depart to Granada. On the way, we stopped at this amazing place Tossa de Mar, in la Costa Brava. Days before we saw in the news that La Costa Brava was in alert for the rains and bad weather; luckily it was a sunny beautiful day! :) ... Finally a day without rain in Spain! :D
It took us about 2 hours perhaps, because we went through all the Coast, in that way I was able to see how the outside area of Barcelona looked and how the towns appearances started changing. Plus, I love the sea and the beach, so it was just an amazing view :)
We made a stopp in Tossa de Mar, it was very cold and the streets were closed from rain damages of days before. We went down to the beach and it was just incredible, the beautiful blue sea, and at the back this medieval castle. I had to go there, for sure! :). Actually, it was the first time I was visiting a medieval castle.
Walking through the stone streets, there were also shops and restaurants on the side. It was lunch time, so before we continue, we stopped at this place to have some sea food (Spanish scallops, fish and some crema catalana which is similar to crème brûlée)! Great lunch! very home made taste! :). I don't remember the name though, but if you walk up to the tower and you see a place with a little boat outside, that's the one! (I've posted a pic).
After the great lunch, we kept exploring part of the castle, walked up to this place where you could see the sea and a very small private piece of beach, some fish man boats, and the best was that there was almost nobody there!. ... :)
It's winter so of course there's nobody, but I've heard that in summer time, it's just full of people :S
If I would have had more time, I would just stay there sitting on the sand or rocks to contemplate the place, so peaceful in that right moment.... But we still had to get to the airport, which was half way, so we kept moving.
Back to the car, we passed through the small village of the castle, where there were small streets and houses made of stone, everything so charmy. There was this particular house with the statue of a little girl in the outside that really got my attention. Would be like a dream cosy house :)
We continue our way to Girona Airport. I stayed there and waited for my flight..... it was going to be delayed and I heard it was raining in Granada, so I was getting ready for more rain :S
I arrived in Granada late at night, took the bus that was going to leave me close to my hostel, and started searching for it.
I stayed at Posada de Colon very close to Calle Reyes Catolicos, but when I first arrived, I was so lost and all the streets are so small, specially the one from my hostel, that it was a bit harsh to find.
It was late, almost nobody on the streets and me walking there. I wasn't sure how safe it was, so I just wanted to find the place. Asking the few people that could be around, there was this old man who was walking through, he knew where the hostel was and was very kind to show me the way. Thank you sir! :)
The staff at La Posada de Colon were very nice and friendly. The place is okay, unfortunately the person who was sleeping under me was an older man who snored so strong!! LOL .... It was a bit harsh to sleep.... but I had to try as the next day was my visit to the beautiful Alhambra! :)
