A Beautiful Cold Day!
January 2, 2009
When my dad was young he also made a trip to Europe, longer than mine; and one of the places he always found fascinating was Versailles. And so, Versailles became my next stop :).
I woke up very early that day, tried not to wake up my roommates, and start my day as early as possible. I knew Versailles was at least 45 minutes trip, and first I had to take several connections to get to the right point. Before that, it was the day I was not going to be with 10 euros no more as I didn't have them anymore! hahahaa... So, first thing in the morning, get into the bank! :). After that I walked around and found this amazing building, it was the Centre Pompidou!! Such incredible, I stayed for a while starring at it, despite it was starting to rain :P, and then kept walking to get into the closest metro that would lead me to Versailles Station.
It was almost an hour ride, I was a bit confused with the trains as I had to take the RER, but asking around I guess I was in the right way! :). While being in the train I was looking through the windows and was impressed with the graffiti in town, actually I've seen a lot of graffiti in several cities of Europe. Anyway, the houses were covered with some snow, as it started to snow during the night, I deduced that Versailles would be covered with snow as well. :)
We arrived to the Versailles-Rive Gauche ending around noon, and I just followed the crowd! hahahh, I mean most of them looked as if they were going to visit the place :). I got a bit distracted though, it was so cold that I had to get some coffee, and just in the corner there was a Starbucks! haha, YEAH! a Starbucks! so I bought a coffee to go and started to check for Versailles. Just a cross the small street there was this bus stop where I asked the guy how could I get to Chateau, and he said it's just behind this block, so it was pretty close :P
I was very excited while walking, I've seen so many pictures and also found it so fascinating. I was approaching and crossing the parking lot, when I found the entrance. Oh Man! I found a HUGE crowd of ppl. At first I thought there was a show going on or something, but then following, I saw they were all making this line to get into this tiny door.... oh BOY!! without exaggerating, it was at least 3 hours waiting if I was going to decide to make the line..... So, I didn't! hahahaa. Actually you could book online, the cost is about 13.50 €.
I noticed that there was a free entrance, so I went there! :P . ... I walked in and this marvelous panorama appeared.... A Huge garden with statues, some of them were covered for protection. Then I realized this was actually like a huge terrace or second floor, so I walked till the end and the view was just impressive!! Down there were other gardens covered with some snow, a far away lake and the view of the town.... It was breath taken.
I kept walking throughout Le Parc, and the sun started to appear, it was just so beautiful in such a cold day. While I kept walking and freezing, I got an sms from the guys! lol, they were in Madrid and the weather over there was so nice, that they didn't even need to wear a coat! hahahaha..... and me, freezing, but enjoying so much the place!... totally worth it! :)
After a while, it was time for me to get back in Paris, I was starting not to feel well again. However, I was still planning to visit later Montmartre.
I went back to the hostel and rest a bit, I was not feeling so well, so I took another pill. It was also getting dark, but I still wanted to visit Montmartre as it was my last day in Paris.
Got into the metro to stop in Abessess, and what cough my attention was that there was an elevator and several ppl waiting, and I didn't have the time to wait, so I decided to go through the stairs..... mmmm WRONG DECISION!! hahaha.... The stairs didn't have an ending! hahaha, well, they did but it was just a long way up, or perhaps I felt it that way as I wasn't feeling well, but I found several ppl who had to stop and take some breath to continue going upstairs! hahaha :P .... Anyway, I got through the end, got to the streets where I found very enchanted. I knew I was going to like this town; kept walking and more small charmy streets appeared, restaurants and cafes, I decided to make a stop and eat something since I didn't eat anything after my starbucks lol ... I had just a chicken sandwich and a late. I really wasn't feeling well by that time, and I was just starting my journey, so in able to avoid getting sick, I decided to go back to the hostel and really get some rest. The next day I had to wake up very early in the morning to catch the bus that would take me to Beauvais Airport. This airport is far away from paris, the bus takes around 2 hours or so, but to get into the bus station it was about 40 minutes by metro.
My flight was at 9:30am, and I had to wake up very early in the morning. For some reason I woke up at 2am!!!, at 3am I was ready to get my butt to the station, but the staff told me that the station opens at 5:30am! hhaha BUMMER!! I just waited, but wanted to be as early as possible at the station to catch the earliest bus to Beauvais.
I flew with Ryanair, but since this was totally new for me, I selected to bill at the airport grrrrrrrrrr, which means I had to pay 10 €. Grrrrrrr that pissed me off! Okay whatever, I had to pay, STILL in France they don't accept Cash, just credit cards, so if this ever happens to you, be aware.
After this it was just a matter of waiting for my flight to depart ......... Back to Barna! :D
