short stop over
Old colonial city in the desert on the way to Equador.
We got in to actually just stop over and change buses, still had time to look around a bit and see parts of the city center which is actually quite nice tranquil plenty of police is around to offer security amongst old colonial buildings with their enclosed windows. The city center is built on a square grid surrounded by a “ring road” on which one still can encounter part of the old city wall. Tours are offered to the biggest “mud city” and old ruins however we did not go as we where planning to get to Equator.
There a few Agency offering Bus trips direct to Guayaquil in Equador, we sadly took one of them (there is a equatorial Bus comp who offers a direct services @ 11pm for 60 US$ apparently without changing of buses.
We managed to get a trip booked for 40 US$ but after getting the ticket I saw we got taken…. Could have gotten our own ticket up north closer to the border for 27.- PER$ and form there 15 US$ could have gotten us a ticket to Guayaquil from Piura which by the way is from what we saw busy. And one gets greeted by a stench of sewage (in front of some bus stations) apparently the pipes are broken and the city council does not worry to repair them " sadly.
I when on the street looking for a snack was warned by a “taxi” driver that a guy was about to try and snatch my back bag or at least thinking of getting he’s hands on my things in them…
