The adventure of (yet un-named ) the gnome begins !

back to a big city

la boca

After yet another long drive we are getting in to Buenos Aires, the drive in the bus is rather boring nothing  much to see out the windows just plain grass lands occasionally a few animals.

During the drive we stopped in Bahia Blance and I must say it looked impressive the bus station was even modern then  here in BA.

We made the mistake by booking a hostel online by just looking at the pictures and cost / location and overlooked to read the reviews.

When we got there it did not look like anything on the pictures, they did not have our booking no room and no one to be found who could help.

So we instead of a time of rest headed out to find a new place to stay, luckily I had still some hostels saved on my PC , so we headed out to hunt for a new place to stay by looking at the rooms first.

We got to see a bit of the city as we were on foot from Congresso a rather nice neighborhood on our way in the region of the obelisco.

We finally ended up back at the hostel with a new accommodation for next day onwards.

On the following morning check out time ..  no one there to attend us, then finally a guy ½ a sleep came to tell me it would be 80$.. yea sure.. I told him I did 10% of the booking already and I would openly pay for this night NO MORE he was a bit buffed but I would stand my ground, then I had to make him give me a bill… glad to be out

We changed or location and headed out to La Boca, once again walking towards it.. funny place with tourist all over and colorful old houses. Of course tango demonstrations every where, restaurants trying to get you in to sit down watch the show .

.on our way home I got stopped by a Cop and he warned me to not go closer to the port site as it is dangerous for tourists.

Certainly not as many dogs on the street then in Chile, yet though it is true you better watch where you step or you end up stepping in doggy pooh.

2nd day we checked out the area of ricoleta I must say it is rather nice with all the old buildings around not only the cemetery but too some parks..

Buenos Aires definitely still has evidence of being one of the richest city in the world in the 20is, sadly this did come to an end, would be fabulous to be there at that time..

Day 3, checking out the area of Casa rocha and the docks still hot sunny days which make the walking a bit exhausting.

In Avenida 25 del mayo we noticed a stage was erected so I asked the guys what it was for and was told there was a Flamenco show tonight @ 2100.

puerto madero
. well we had to come back later to see this too.

Day 4,

Took in the morning a stroll down to san telmo to see the weekend market. It is full of antique shops  and tango demonstrations, basketries…

We walked all the way up to casa rocha again as it was full with stalls. Giao is suffering the constant walking with pain in her foot, so we cut this afternoon short as rain droplets started to fall. Took the Subtube home and we just made it before a down poor.

Tomorrow another grueling 17 hour trip to Puerto Iguazu so we just keep it relaxed tonight, no point getting stressed out.

We are now faced to make a decision on how to travel next, we somehow need to get from Iguazu to Peru but not sure of best route or trip to take.. so stay tuned!

But Buenos Aires for sure got a charm does not feel at least on the weekend like a big city as it is almost deserted a pity it lost its riches over time as it must have been amazing living here!

taking Buses from Buenos Aires to other long distance locations
When looking for connection on Buses to Iguazu, I came across this website and thought it might be of help to TB members:
http://www.omnilineas.com/argentina/bus/retiro/puerto-iguazu/
as you can see from this site it gives you a destination and the Bus Company going there / time of travel / type and cost of the trip
We found too the place where you can buy the tickets directly (stall of the ticket sell)
It is worth wile to look in to what type of services is offered on the trip, as some Bus comp. will serve food / wine ect. Where others do not.
So perhaps you can look in to this before you go.
I personally did not find much difference of Semi Cama to Cama other then the seats where a bit wider but the recline is still only 60%. The cost however is in some cases rather at a larger difference – then again the service is different!
Hope this might help some of you!
