Vancouver and / way to Alaska
Arriving at a sunny day to Vancouver started well as we got free bus rides to the city (ticket machine was broken..) I had enquired prior regardi88ng scuba diving and thus I had to look around to find the shop to make final arrangements for next day. The shop was around Broadway area which is pretty neat easy to get to by bus. Was glad I could manage to get on the dive trip! (read more about this in separate blog)
We had a room in downtown, since our next transport was leaving from the dock. – Cruise with Carnival / 7 days Alaska.
Luckily the next day weather turned and we got a perfect day – warm sunny – just perfect for diving.
I got picked up and left to the western part, the ferry terminal to head on the boat. After the day out below water I was dropped off on the age of Stanley Park where I walked home along the waterfront.
The city center reminds me a lot on parts of Melbourne, - Southgate/ Docklands, as it fairly new looking with tall glass buildings all over. Hardly any old “historic” buildings other than a few spread around.
One thing which was a bit surprising though and almost annoying is the amount of “beggars” on the streets, you can hardly step out on the street without being asked each corner by at least 1 or 2 for money! Areas of China town are littered with them too.
I too was surprised with the amount of Asian population present here, I did not expect this, which is good though as there plenty of cheap eateries and I love Asian food! And of course shopping.. wow how many shopping centers can a city pack in down town????
Giao managed to arrange a day of “TLC” by going to a hair studio where professionals go to update skills, hence a treatment at a much better cost.
Vancouver host’s a beautiful park to just to stroll around, or go to the aquarium (bus 19), where you’ll be able to see even Beluga whale (currently 3 grown females and 1 baby with soon one additional baby)
But all over a pleasant city, would be nice to spend more time to explore the surroundings a bit more by hiring a car.
