Walked with Cath down around Madison Square Garden
Then ventured back up to the Rockafella centre, where we accidentally jumped on the end of an NBC studio tour. It was weird because we seemed to be among this group where they were all obviously from the same area (sort of a southern accent) so we didn’t even want to talk to give away that we clearly weren’t with them
Grabbed $45 tickets for Aida (Egyptian show) on Broadway, then got some well-earned sleep before meeting up with Cath for Aida. Watched it from the nosebleed section but it was still incredible.
Now Planet Hollywood was located fairly close to the hostel and as we wandered past we noticed and offer for a ‘Bucket of Bud’, five beers for $5 which was just asking for trouble.
We decided to get a random taxi to Tribeca, now obviously the taxi driver knew we had no idea where we were going, so he dropped us at a pub in Greenwich square. Grabbed a beer at this tavern, and low and behold there was Scottish music on the radio (Texas etc.)
Then jumped in another cab to ‘the Back Fence’, you know you’re in trouble when there sawdust on the floor, but there was this cool combination of a country style guitarist with a Blues guitarist, really good.
Then another cab to a hip-hop club where we couldn’t get in because we weren’t on ‘the list’. So another cab, to another random hip-hop club where we handed over our $20 cover charge (how much is that Australian again ???) where all the women were glamours and everyone on the dancefloor can dance properly. We were definitely out of our element, so we sat back and took in the scene. Eventually our accents were novelty enough to make some new friends but we didn’t stay in there too long.
So the night was over and the hangover beckoned.
