About 30 minutes South of Tokoroa, off State Highway One, is the most popular Lake for Tokoroa Campers and Boatees, Lake Ohakuri.

The lake has formed behind the Atiamuri Dam which is the second dam on the Waikato River from it's start at Taupo.

Lake Ohakuri is the home of the Tokoroa Yacht Club and the surrounding area is perfect for camping any time of the year.

New Zealand Forest products developed the site as a playground for it's workers in the days when companies used to do that sort of thing.  Now there are tighter controls on access due to regulations governing entry to workplaces, which of course the private forest surrounding the lake is.

Still, as a scout we used to come out here on regular occasions to camp, boat, paddle, swim and party.

Across the water lies the Sunlovers Nudist Camp.  I believe you have to be a member, or guest of a member to get your kit off at their camp but much more, I do not know.  Apparently, if you waterski near the Eastern shore, you can see the happy nudists as they frolic about in the lake but I'm of the opinion they are enjoying the wild and good on them!
