Kiwi's just LOVE the water!
The Mount (as it's known) has the pacific ocean on one side and the Tauranga harbour on the other. The whole place is set up for holiday lifestyles but there is a growing desire to own an apartment here, therefore the apartment blocks are growing too!
Tauranga is a stop for about 45 cruise ships that circum navigate NZ every year so there is always a line of tourists pouring from the Harbour into the Mount area to find things to do for a day. If they don't find enough excitement at the Mount then tauranga city is just 10 mins to the West.
I used to rock over here with a car load of my mates from the age of 15 when I got my drivers licence and the keys to my Mother's Mark 2 Ford Escort -ahh I recall the thrill of those 80's bikinis with much fondness. The girls wearing them were pretty thrilling too!
Nowadays I don't hang at the beach for the sme reasons (though I wish I could get away with it!) and in fact visit the Mount more for the hot pools and to walk around the base of Mauao, the big blister shaped outcrop which is what the Mount is all about.
