We went off to Wijnand Fockink! It's a small distillery right behind Dam square where you'll find the best jenever in Amsterdam.
After that we went for some much needed grub at The Tara, it's a good stop: there's always room, always a decent atmosphere, lots of weird nooks and crannies to this place, and to top it off: their burgers are excellent. We picked a spot with some gold sofas and for some reason the "royal style" felt completely appropriate.
We had a near miss with cafe Gollem, great for it's selection of a 100 or so Belgian beers but a bit too crammed for Agnes taste so we continued to Rembrand square.
Downside to this bar: the bouncer can be a bit of a j*rk, especially to people wearing caps as I was.
Continuing our exploration of popular Dutch culture we went to the Cooldown cafe, which has a bit more international poppy music besides Dutch classics and on top of that it has one of the fastest mixing DJ's in town, he can easily crossfade 4 different songs in 1 minute. This can sometimes feel like you're being thrown from a train onto a speedboat which crashes into a Ferrari while narrowly avoiding a pram.
For a more exotic experience we head off to Korsakoff, usually good for all sorts of alternatively minded people, punks, goths and so on but this night the bats had stayed in the cave and the music was a bit mellow so we called it a night there and then.
It has always been great when TB's showed me around while I was travelling, so it was great to be able to return the favour and balance my Karma account. And most important of all: to have a cool TB night out with Harriet and Agnes.
