This new multi-billion dollar high speed rail system that goes from Taipei to Zuoying build by the combined efforts of the locals, Japan and Germany sets a new standard of travel in Taiwan. Since its a relatively new system everything is squeaky clean and comfortable. The seats are quite roomy; enough at least for a 5'7" person like me to fully stratch my legs. If you are going to travel the whole way down or up one way expect to pay between US $25 - $40 depends on the time of the day and the type of seating that you get. The total travel time from Taipei to Zuoying now only takes around 90 minutes. For more information check out their site at: Highspeed Rail

If you're a tourist and don't have a lot of time or luggages, riding the high speed rail system might be a cost effective way to see the major cities that are build along the western side of the island.

The pictures below are some outside scenaries that you can expect to see while riding this new highspeed rail.
