shares its economic importance with Taipei
that balances the wealth and political power between the North and South. The
city of Kao-hsiung has one of the largest
shipping sea ports in Asia along with many heavy industries that is vital to Taiwan's
economy. The last that I heard 70 percent of Taiwan's wealth is earned through
exporting of its products and services. If there is anything major were to
happen to Kao-hsiung especially its sea port the entire economy of Taiwan will
come to a grinding halt.
My travel through the city of Kao-hsiung
tells me that it’s definitely a much faster pace way of life compare to that of
Pingtung. I have taken some pictures of its modernized sections of the city and
its famous sea port.
It is when I got to Kao-hsiung that I decided to travel East across the
Southern part of the Formosa
mountain range (Highest in Taiwan)
to Taitung. This road is also one of the most beautiful stretch a tourist can
travel through. But be prepared to drive through this mountainous road early
during the day as it will take probably a total of 6 to 8 hours depending on
how fast you drive.
