Philippines! The country that made me fall in love again!

1st Day in London

Getting a head start i headed up to Westminister Tube station. Started walking from the Tube station and over Westminister bridge and down Queens Walk. (down the south bank).. With view of Big Ben , House of Parlament , eye of london, the shakespeare theatre , HMS Beltfast , Tower Bridge and Tower of London and several other things this i a route which is about 3km i can recomend to everyone. Ive written reviews of all the things i passed by on my way.

The biggest surprise where the HMS beltfast with its great exhibitions. If you can find a guide! This made the trip from "good" to "fantastic".

Arrival London

Leaving from Bergen Airport Flesland and heading for London STN everything went ok trough customs. The only thing is that they took my sealed bottle of coke at Flesland ,but thats a loss i can tolerate. Im living at Globetrotter INN right next to Hammersmith. I took the national express to Statford (8pounds) and then the tube to westham (1stop) and then the district line to Stratford Brook which is the closest tube station. This is a very nice hosatel ,but a littlebit to big for me. The service is good,  facilities is superb , but the charm of a small hostel isnt there. Im comming with a review of this place later.

But while i where sitting and drinking a pint and just relaxing. There where this girl staring at me! Our eyes met and i just looked away since im shy.. But she kept staring.. Wow.. this is something you seldom (or never?) experience in Norway.. Woohoo London at its best :D

For now.. London seems like a really nice city with a lot of good sights.

Haha! Ive totally forgotten about this! I think i went over and say hi, but we didnt hit it off. I saw her with two different guys the next five days so it wasnt a big loss.

After reading alot about the great eye of london i thought i stop by. Ive heard several people tell you to book ahead ,but the que only took around 5mins(remember we are still in mid-march). After paying 14.50GBP and entering the wheel we had to endure this horribly slow wheel to make an revelation. Ok.. you CAN get some good photos at this trip which last about 25mins, but with a pricetag of almost 15pounds your pounds is better spent elsewhere.

If you can, go at dusk since most of the sights are lit at nighttime. With a good Camera you will get some amazing shots. Perhaps its an idea to use an tripod? (or at least a camera which is good at high ISO values)

Its not one of londons "top atractions" , but its nice enough to try once you are in London.

(more information will come later. Have to write down the things before i forget)
I didnt like Tate Modern that much.. Its just alot of weirds stuff standing in different parts of the Museum. Its a plus for the great view from the 7.th floor where you can get some greats shots (if youre lucky its get dark so you can get some nice shots at the floodlighted jubilee Bridge).

But other people love this place so perhaps im only a littlebit to "straith forward" and to little "out of the box" to understand the art?

This was weird.. To weird for me. But its free :)
Not allowed to take any pictures (probably beacause the flash causes damage to the paintings). But in the Turbine Hall its allowed to take as many pictures as you want
Not so far from Tower bridge lies HMS beltfast permanetly moored in the Thames. This is an old WW2 cruiser which participated in the Normandy Landings (Operation Overlord or D-day) and the sinking of an German Warship of the North Cape in Norway.

Is it worth the trip? YES! My view might be biased since im a seaman ,but anyway. Most of the people i met loved the exhibiton. You will get a map once you enter and hold on to it! Its not so easy to find the way trough all the narrow places and corridors. The reception will also offer you an "walkman style thingie" to give audio presentation about the diferent sections of the ship. This is free of charge and good to have if you want some extra information. There is also videopresentation at some of the sights in the Engine Room and the Gun batteries.

Ask the reception about a guide. I where walking around by myself untill i met a group of swedish people. I joined their guided tour of the ship and even tough ive been to most of the places just minuttes before it was much better having a good guide. The guide where VERY GOOD and well worth the extra cost it may have.

Ive been to merhant ships with a age of only 10years and i must say that HMS beltfast is one beatiful lady for her Age. Doesnt look like a new ship ,but considering launced in 1938 she is a real beauty.

(pictures and spelling correction will come as fast as i download the pictures from the camera. Just typing down before i forget)

The new Globe is a copy of the old globe which where built i 1599. The new Globe is located around 300meter from the spot where the old globe where built and burned down agani in 1611.

Lying on the south Bank close to London Brigde Tube Station lies Shakespeares globe exhibition. With an admissionprice of only 3pounds you cannot afford not to go inn. If you pay extra you can get a guided tour (recomended as its only a couple of pounds more). You can also enter the stage and watch plays. Just ask the reception about when the next tour or play is going to start.

If you are interested in shakespeare or litterature in general this is a must see in London. Located very close to other tourist atractions its well worth the trip.
