Adams Peak, Nuwara Eliya and Ella
Goodbye Kandy - next stop Adams Peak. We arrived in the afternoon to prepare ourselves for the morning ascent of the religiously significant Adams Peak. Real name sri pada. We climbed 4600 steps with hundreds of buddhist pilgrims who believe that the top is the location of lord buddhas footprint.
The view from the top was amazing especially as the sun broke through at dawn. There is a remarkable natural phenomonon that is viewed for 20mins just after dawn where the mountain casts a perfect traingular shadow, in actual fact the mountain is not symmetrical.. see the pictures.
After breakfast we headed onwards to the tea country - town Nuyara Eliya. This town is known for its veryy english style which it has retained from the english colony times.
We visited the Pedro Tea factory and learnt all about the manufacture of tea. A suprisingly quick process..
Ella was a cute little town in the mountains. Sarah had her quota of waterfalls catered for.. although small children were trying to sell us Aus 50c coins at a very bad exchange rate at most of the scenic spots!
Now onto Yala to see the animals..
