Snorkelling

Turquoise Bay

To make getting around the peninsula a little easier today we decided to hire a small car, not that we don't like driving the campervan, but it is a bit of a bitch to park sometimes. After the van the Hyundai Getz we hired is like driving a go-kart, you're sitting really close to the ground and you can really throw it around corners......well compared to what we're used to anyway.

Since we're having to wait until tomorrow for our boat trip, today we thought we'd go snorkelling at Turquoise Bay instead. When you see the picture you can probably guess why it's called Turquoise Bay.

In Turquoise Bay there is a natural drift which occurs that'll take snorkellers from the left hand side over the coral to the right of the bay, so we spent a good couple of hours larking around in the current.

We only stopped to get something to eat.

The one thing we didn't know before driving 64km to Turquoise Bay was that there is absolutely nowhere to get anything to eat around that side of the peninsula, so as you can imagine after a rather eventful morning letting the current do all the work we were a little hungry. The only option was to drive the 64km back to Exmouth for something to eat, then drive 64km back to Turquoise Bay (the lady at the car rental place knew all about this issue when I mentioned it to her on dropping the car off, If only we'd thought to ask). The afternoon drift across the bay was just a pleasant as the one in the morning, except this time we braved going out a little further to see what we could see.
