On Wendy's return from brushing her teeth this morning she arrived back at the van to see a baby kangaroo stood at the door nudging it with his nose, obviously the smell of english muffins has a universal appeal.
We crossed into the state of Victoria today on our way to Melbourne and beyond. We were supposed to stay in a little town called Marlo, but ever since we left Pambula the weather had been miserable and when we got there the grey skies just didn't appeal, so we kept on going. That's no reflection on Marlo itself, but since it was only just after midday when we arrived, there wasn't much point checking in & then just sitting in the van watching the rain.
Eventually we arrived in Lakes Entrance, which was supposed to be our destination tomorrow (13th). Things started to look up, it wasn't exactly clear blue skies, but at least there were hints of blue to been seen. Being the intrepid explorers and eternal optomists, we headed off in search of the beach. Which quickly turned out to be a bad idea when the rain started up, nothing too major but enough for the people wearing windcheaters and jeans to start to stare. We got as far as the beach, but after sheltering under the life savers hut for a minute, we turned around and headed towards the esplanade. We did feel out of place in our shorts, sandals and t-shirts, wondering amongst people obviously dressed for the cold snap.
After getting some essentials and grabbing a quick coffee, it was back to the van to contemplate getting the fleece and socks out of the bag under the bed. Luckily the sun started to shine down on our little van and those thoughts were quickly dismissed.
