Back diving in Cairns
Another 3 dives today and by far the most enjoyable so far. It probably helps since our guide only had 2 other divers to look after and they chose not to do the first dive.
Dive 1 - Flynn Reef, Gordons.
With just Wendy and I, the dive guide went out of his way to show us everything he could. Things started very well with a White Tip just sat on the sand just below where we descended. Luckily we were the first to see it as it bolted pretty much straight away. After the shark a wrasse took a particular liking to our tour guide and spent the whole 45mins following us around, hassling the three of us and coming in really close. We spotted quite a few turtles (Hawksbill and Green) just sat around the bottom feeding and the dive guide let me feed it some of the apparent narcotic algae, which it seemed to like.
Dive 2 - Flynn Reef, Ski Slope
Another good start to a dive, coming across a sleeping Leopard Shark pretty much as we hit the maximum depth. I've got some video of it, but as I tried to switch to photo mode it shot off. So I'll try and get it uploaded onto Youtube or something similar. Lots of dogtooth tuna and traveley's everywhere. On the way to the safety stop we saw a Loggerhead Turtle, which is apparently very rare.
Dive 3 - Milne Reef, Pools.
Another great dive with too many varieties of fish to list them all. Plenty of tuna, barraccuda, traveley and clown fish.
No more dives planned for Cairns this time round, but after speaking to the dive guides on the boat we've got some plans further into the trip.
