New Years Eve 2008 in Amsterdam. TB Meet up broke all records
Last day of the year... 31st December 2008... It didn't feel like the last day of this year. A year that had been so great for me because of many travels and great experiences. A better end I couldn't wish. With many fellow travelers from all around the world celebrating the end of 2008 and the start of 2009. In one word: amazing!!! There were 73 people and many nationalities!
My friend Janja, from Slovenia, came over to the Netherlands. Early afternoon we came to Amsterdam. We visit the Wallen with all the coffee shops (red light district) and the first 'lady' we saw was 60+... She had seen enough... After that we went to the Vondel Park, walked to some famous buildings and churched, the Dam, the Rembrandtplein and Leidse Plein. For dinner we had pizza at Pino Pizzaria, close to the Leidse Plein.
It was freezing cold outside so we stayed as long as possible in this restaurant. By 8.30pm we headed up to the Javakade where the party Boat 2 lay. The Boat 2 lay at the end of the Javekade where it was very quiet until the TB party started.We arrived a little before 10pm at the Boat 2 and there were already about 20 people present. It was time to get this party started!!!! Slowly everybody came in and the music was pumping from the speakers. Just before midnight we took a class of champaign and took it up to the deck of the boat. 10... 9... 8... 7... 6... 5... 4... 3... 2... 1... HAPPY NEW YEAR HAPPY 2009!!!!
We saw the fireworks from Amsterdam and lighted some 'cold fire' stars sticks (or how do you call those things... look at the pictures.
Since it was freezing cold outside I went back inside quick and the party continued. I'm not sure, but I think before midnight the organizers (James, Alex, Devika, Anna and Wendy) spoke to us and gave the t-shirt to the one who had to travel the biggest distance. We also took a group picture (who took it?????) Every one had a good time, the dj had good music and with a lot of good crazy people it was soooo much fun!!! I'm happy I choose this party to go to.
At 4am the party was officially over... Toooooo early... We had to go back to Amersfoort. That's where I live. But the first train left at 6.29am... I think we left the Boat 2 by 4.45pm or so and walked to the hotel were James had booked a room. We stayed for about 45 minutes in the lobby of this hotel before Janja, Mark and I walked to the train station. On our way we picked up Rudy. The train station was crazy... So many people waiting for their trains, drunks, agressive people, assholes and what ever more you can think about. We changed trains at Schiphol. At 7.30am Janja and I arrived at Amersfoort Central station and we had to bike for another 20 minutes... It was so cold and I needed to pie really bad too. Fortunately we made it home safe.
I want to say THANKS SO MUCH to the organizers and every one who was at the party! Hope to meet you again soon somewhere in the world! Where is the next meet up?? :-)
