If you are lucky, there's a sunday afternoon drag race.
Americans - and not only the boys - love cars, car shows and car races.
So going to a drag race on sunday is like a family picnic. The whole family goes there, Mom, Dad, the kids... and of course a giant cooler!
Forget about the sign outside stating "No Coolers bigger than 6qt allowed". Nobody cares, at least not on a casual sunday drag race.
Race starts around 3 PM, but it's ok not to show up until 5 or 6 PM. The first few runs are just junior series, which is fun to watch but not as interesting as the real ones.
Later that afternoon you'll see Public Racers, Pro Stocks, Funnies and Top Fuels. When it's dark, there even might be some Jet Dragsters. Don't forget your earplugs! Those jet engines are INCREDIBLY loud!
Public Racers are cool. A guy with a long white beard and a ball cap shows up in an apple green '32 Ford Deuce. Supercharged. Big wheels. Street legal, valid Nevada license plate. Very nasty V8 engine sound.
He slowly drives his hot rod to the tree, burns some rubber, then races against his opponent, who drives a red Chevy Nova.
A quarter mile.
Two hot rods vanashing into thin air...
A guy with a long white beard driving home in his '32 hot rod...
Ain't this what living is all about? :-)
