well, its been five days and this is my first time on the internet...which says a lot.  aside from the fact that we've been on remote islands with little internet access (i am at the only computer with internet here at the moment), i wouldn't have stolen a moment from out trip thusfar to visit cyberspace...

after spending xmas night in cebu city, we did a (sort of) quick jump down to alona beach in panglao...a resorty strip with access to some amazing dive sites.  although i want to go into great details about our difficulty in finding a room (in the dark) and the amazing family members we collected in our 3 days there and our super mellow dive master, i have but a moment because the internet cost is exhorbitant and the hammock is calling me.  diving was much easier to slide back into than i had expected...frankie and i both did quite well and had 4 spectacular dives, the highlight being a wall dive off of balicasag island where the play of sunlight on the coral and schools of barricuda and the return of THAT brand of awe were just magical.

alona was cool, but very commercial and quite expensive, so we poked around on a map a bit and came up with cabilao island, a teeny dot on the map just west of bohol.  after a public bus, a tricycle ride, another intensely crowded bus, a motorbike ride, a pump boat ride (at sunset...ahhhh) and another motorbike ride, we arrived to discover that the onlly three resorts here were all we though, until we asked one of the divers returning from a night dive and he helped score us the last room on the island, sweet ass in a beautiful garden, a flip-flop's throw from the sea (which sea, i am not quite sure).  it is heavenly...noplace to go but back and forth from the baruga to the hammock to the sand to the incredible reefs that surround us.  did my first dive here today - 25 meters, 55 minutes, 3 germans, 2 lionfish and a partridge in a pear tree.  we're planted here until after new years...and then its off to bohol to rent some motorbikes, soak in some jungle, cuddle up some tarsiers and whatever (or whoever) else should find us...

gonna go submit to the seduction of the lapping waves. until then....
