Day 11 was an exciting day for a bunch of us, we got to Rome
! We stayed at a hotel on the outskirts of Rome because the one we were supposed to stay at was being renovated or had caught fire or something. So we drove into town for a walkabout dinner. We drove around sightseeing for a bit then walked through all sorts of places. After a while at the Trevi Fountain we got to Piazza Navona where we split up and found our own restaurants, even though most of us ended up in the same place. After dinner we were exploring the area a bit and checking out the markets in the Piazza. One of the vendors sold some of the guys little BB guns and thousands of BB's each. From the Piazza to Vienna, the shooting games never stopped. Once we were back at the hotel the hallways were used to old-west style shootouts and all sorts of things.
Day 12 was an early morning so we could get into the Vatican before there were lines. It was basically a free day with the option to do a historical walking tour, so no one was in a big hurry. I ended up going through the Vatican Museum with Owen, Dubbo (Zoe) and Ranga (Emma). We spent a good hour exploring before we got to the Sistine Chapel. Then we went out what we thought was the only exit to try to get to St. Peter's Basilica. We ended up outside the front of the museum. So after asking a bunch of tour guides and security guards and even a few members of the Swiss Guard, we found out we had to go through the museum again. So we went a bit faster this time and were told to go through various doors that said "Staff Only", "Private" and "Tour Guides Only". Over the course of going through those doors our group had picked up Oo.
S.A. (Andrew), Elliot and Julz. Finally we got to St. Peter's and found a few more people from our tour, Katherine, Anne, Joe and Chantel. After a while in St. Peter's we ran into Team Asia and Nathan as well, although we lost them in a crowd and Oo.S.A. went missing around the same time. We figured while people were going missing it was probably a good time to find some lunch. So we strolled out of Vatican City
and into some sidestreets talking about lunch until some gentlemen sitting outside having a smoke talked us into going to their restaurant for lunch. While we were bartering with them Oo.S.A. and Team Asia showed up again so we had 12 people for lunch in a tiny restaurant. Then we had an awesome walking tour all through the ruins and into the Coliseum and then our guide just left, so we figured it was over and left.
Katherine and Anne, who had gotten left behind in Florence
, wanted to start a group to go to the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain because they had missed it the day before. After dinner though, the drama picked up as a few girls were knocking on everyones door telling us that Kara, was going to the hospital for some unknown reason. As it turned out, we had 2 paramedics on our tour and a nurse. But an ambulance showed up and they managed to get her out of her ice cold bath and drive off in no time.
