Stayed in Playas del Este, travelled to Havana. Met many Cubans on the gay beach Mi Cayito in Santa Maria del Mar, on the Havana Malecon and in the Havana Barrios Vedado, Centro and Habana Vieja. I tried to understand the dynamics of living in cuba, and attitudes towards the slowly changing environment.

Malecon (Boardwalk), Habana

We made a few day-trips from the hotel in Playa del Este to Havana, where we walked a lot on the Malecon, in Barrio Vedado, Habana Centro and Habana Vieja.  The Malecon stretches from the port entrance for many miles towards the West.  We met many friendly Cubans, happy to pose for pictures, and to offer tips on purchasing cigars, rum, or renting a casa particular.  Although an antique car show occurs every day on every street in Havana, we came across an official antique car and bike parade in front of the Hotel Nacional. The cars were no different than on the other streets, except for being clean and well-polished.
