Tela: Beach Studying at its Best!
I woke up early today...probably from a guilty conscience as opposed to being in a new place which usually wakes me up when I'm traveling! I haven't read a bit of my Family Medicine book while I've been working in the clinics, and today was the day of judgment. I went out on the beach early to spend it with my FM book. I found a bit of quiet seclusion in a lifeguard tower and began reading the chapters that were remaining. My travelmates spotted me though, and pretty soon I descended from the high perch to join the rows of towels with my classmates and to all suffer the necessity to study on such a beautiful day, and on such a beautiful beach!
I kept applying sunscreen, knowing that my Northerner skin isn't cut out for this near to the equator! I had already burned once on this trip when hanging out with the little kids during our lunch in Ocote.
..I didn't want to do the same again.I still burned to a crisp on the back of my legs! Rolling in the sand, running in and splashing in the ocean and then coming back to the FM Book made the 3-4 applications of sunscreen entirely inadequate. Around noon I was seeking cover (the sun had really gotten too strong). Vince, Erin and I walked around Tela in search of a meal and finally settled at the Northern Lights cafe... a quaint little restaurant a little further away from the hustle and bustle of Main street.
After lunch, I went back to battling my studies and reading the book like it was my job. The test loomed above all of the students and after taking a nap, we all headed to a hotel across the street to take our exam. It was the shortest, and hardest exam I've ever taken! 50 minutes of agony while the beautiful sunset glared back at me outside.
..uncaptured, beautiful. My legs reminded me about the torture on the beach earlier that day, and stung with all their burn marks, I felt hot, then cold, then hot again as my body adjusted to the 2nd degree burns and the A/C that was cranked up to the Arctic level in the exam room. Thank goodness the exam was over quickly!Afterward, we set out to find our favorite beverages and I danced with Anya (5 year old girl who is the daughter of one of the attendings) on the boardwalk.
