Our next adventure took us on a three hour bus ride to Venice. Originally, we were scheduled to take the train, but there was a planned transportation strike making the that a no go. The ride was quite beautiful as we travelled through the Apennine Mountains.

The motor coach took us as far as it could go. The tour group boarded three water taxis and off we went to Venice. Once we arrived, we were met by our Venetian tour guide. This gentleman was a third generation guide; following his father and grandfather. After our very informative walking tour which included seeing the Bridge of Sighs, Basilica di San Marco, San Marco Square and Doge Palace we had lunch.

After a delicious lunch, we went on a gondola ride through some of the canals. We even had a singer to serenade us. At the end of the ride, we went on another walking tour lead by our tour director. After some free time to walk around, we were back on the water taxi and swept away to the island of Murano - famous for its glass making. We saw a glass making demo and then went to the showroom to view the many pieces available for purchase. Another ride on the water taxi, took us back to our bus for our ride back to Florence.
