Edinburgh Castle from outside the hostel

We briefly went to Manchester to drop off my luggage only to leave for Edinburgh the next day (Monday). I really just wanted to stay put for a while and set up my bedroom and organise everything out of my case and into a set spot...but nope - away we go. On one hand it was really exciting to be going somewhere else to travel but at the same time I was really eating into my Aussie savings and wanted to find a job and start earning British pounds, and to settle my bank account and transfer money over, get started on applying for a National Insurance number etc, all the things to settle into English life really.

The train to Scotland wasnt too bad, its ridiculous how easy and quick it is to travel over here compared to home!! 3-4 hours on a train over here and ur in another country... 9 hours on a train back home and were not even half way across the state!

We arrived in Edinburgh and found Castle rock hotel pretty easily... i'll admit we had to ask directions - but when we did we were pretty much told to "look across the road" lol in the nicest way possible. The hostel was right in front of Edinburgh Castle. Edinburgh was amazing and the old architecture was beautiful!! If it wasnt so goddamn cold I honestly think it is somewhere that I could live. We were however in a pretty touristy area which I wouldnt like if i lived there, but hey, its gorgeous. We were told the temperature for october this year were extremely cold.

The room JK Rawling wrote her book.. or thought of it..? So I was told lol
.. it was "January/ February weather in october" ... without the snow...I still hadnt seen real snow Grrr, And I swear on my love of Browns Brothers Crouchen Reisling that I dont understand how a place can be soooo extremely cold without it snowing!! It should be scientifically impossible! Im surprised I left with my nose still attached to my face! Never in my life...

We met up with Shell's friend Terri who she met on her European contiki tour at the beginning of this year and had dinner with her at the last drop. With our accommodation at Castle rock we got discounts at certain places and the Last drop was one of them. We expected a pound - if that off our meals but we got each meal for HALF PRICE!!..woo!! The staff were awesome too - i must have "take the piss out of me" written on my forehead because thats all i got for i few weeks straight by strangers!! lol it was fun.
Apparently the most haunted place in Edinburgh
Then we went on a Mary King's Close tour which was all underground and quite interesting. The tour guides dressed up and get really into it - I bought a hand jewellery holder from the Mary King's Close gift Shop... pointless information but it was my first Scottish buy and first real souvenier from the UK too so it was a milestone!!

We did a walking tour of Edinburgh on the Tuesday and learnt a whooooooole lot of information from the history of the song "You take the highh road and ill take the low...something something something... loch loooomooond" its really sad =( to walking past the window J.K Rawling came up with the idea or wrote about Harry Potter and  the building that gave her the idea for the school in the books, to the Graveyard where the little dog waited by his owners grave everyday until he himself died - where apparently the most haunted place in Edinburgh is - i didnt see or hear or feel anything though, grr.

We took the train mid arvo to Glasgow just to have a look around - we ended up doin a fair bit of shopping...(=D) and had dinner and a quick look around the town - it was dark so we didnt get to see too much =( damn the early getting dark times!! Mainly had to go here for my manager back home - CRAIG - who couldnt decide whether I should or shouldnt go to Glasgow. He's from there and suggested I go have alook but then took it back when he realised how violent it can be - but then said I should still go and he'll tell his mates - but then maybe i just shouldnt go at all. ...So I went
