Weekend in Sydney - A Tale of Two Cities
March 25, 2007
I woke up feeling great. I went and grabbed some breakfast food at
Coles and then headed back to the room to enjoy Sunday morning
television. I checked out at 1045a and headed over to Hyde Park and the
Anzac memorial since they were the only places I had left to visit. It
was not a pretty morning weatherwise, but I managed to get there and
enjoy the beauty of the park and the history of the monument without
getting soaked. I then headed to the train station and headed to the
airport. Since the weather was a bit crappy, there really wasn't
anything left for me to do in Sydney. I was also lugging everything I
had on me so I was ready to be done with it all. I was at the airport
at 100p. My flight was scheduled for 730p. I went up to the customer
service counter and asked if they would put me on an earlier flight.
The woman replied that they normally don't do it, but they would go
ahead and do it for me. (PS- I LOVE Qantas. Their customer service is
wonderful.) I got on the 230p flight and was back in Brisbane by 4. On
the flight I sat next to a very nice guy named Nathan who works at the
Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney as a Doctor in their hyperbolic
medicine unit. He also used to play for Australia in ice hockey and was
quite the avid sportsman. I conversed with him the entire way to
Brisbane. The 90 minute flight lasted what seemed about 10 minutes. I
am so glad to be "home."
I think I have learned a big lesson. I really like medium-sized cities. I prefer Brussels to Paris. I like Brisbane to Sydney. I think having grown up in Atlanta I like the feel of the large city but the personality of the smaller town.
