Leaving Atlanta
March 7, 2007
The first lesson I learned was that Americans are now required to have visas to enter Australia. So after about a 1-second freak out at the ticket counter I called Jason who went online and made the necessary arrangements. I could only check in for the flight to LA, so I had to get to LA, get my bag and then check in all over again for the leg of the flight to Sydney. The LAX portion only took an hour though, so, in the long run, no harm done.
However, the flight to Sydney was delayed by an hour. 15 hours in coach is an experience as well. I was left with two hours to get through customs/quarantine and immigration and then transfer to my flight to Coffs Harbour. I had to take a bus and go through security twice before I got on the plane.
But I got to Coffs Harbour. After 27 hours. Definite adventure.
