end of Peru visit
November 23, 2008
We arrived around noon and were soon aboard the ship. After lunch I wanted to go and visit the old spanish fort and the naval museum. But my wife was not yet recuperated and wanted to stay aboard, therefore I stayed wit her, maybe next time I will see those places. Callao is the busiest port of Peru, and from the ship I could see all kinds of ships and work. There were Peru's navy, container, general cargo, small and large ships all around. Also there were thousands of birds, most of them were seagulls. When leaving I saw a sea lion swimming around, I took a picture but it is not that close. With this my trip to Peru came to a great end. I found that Peru is very nice, food was great, and people were very friendly.

Cruse ship
This was my fourth (4th) cruise with Holland America, and sixth (6th) total, and the service from the Filipino and Indonesian crew was excellent. They are outstanding, very friendly and efficient.
The food was excellent as always, Holland America has the best food from all the cruise lines I have tried. They tend to be more expensive than other cruise lines and generally cater to older people. Most of the passengers are retired American and Canadian folks. Which means that you do not have that much noise and rowdy folks roaming around. Which is what I generally like. The ships tend to be very well cared. However this one was an exception. As soon we boarded we noticed a foul smell, later I learned they had a problem with their used water system, and was told it has happened before. The whole of the back smelled like raw sewer.
I would suggest not to use the Statendam and chose another ship if possible.
I didn't know where to review the ship so I put it under Hotels
